The Friendly Village with Spirit!

Manteno, Illinois is located approximately 40 miles south of downtown Chicago and is served by the Metra train only minutes away.

Manteno Township is over 150 years old. “Manteno” is a Potawatomi Indian name derived from the word for spirit...and spirit Manteno has! It is a quaint, friendly town with a growing population of more than 6,400 (2000 census) with an estimated growth of 30% to over 8,300 by 2006. In 2006, the Manteno High School built a 750 student addition, doubling its capacity from the current student population of 689.

The village’s Main Street offers a quaint hometown locale with businesses and stores featuring antique shops, banks, restaurants and beauty shops.

Great Recreation
Lake Manteno is a great place to spend the spring and summer months enjoying fishing, camping, swimming and boating. The village also has an 18-hole golf course, driving range and clubhouse. There are plenty of picnic areas and leisurely activities within the ten area parks including trails, baseball fields, and tennis courts. Manteno even has a free skateboarding and rollerblading park.

Excellent Schools
The Manteno school system is made up of four schools, educating over 2200 students in grades pre-school through 12. The district provide all students with a safe environment for a quality educational experience. It has an outstanding reputation in foundational subjects like reading, writing and math. In addition, students are encouraged to learn and grow in an environment that also emphasizes excellence in science, social sciences, fine arts and physical education.
